Johor Bahru City Square is a shopping centre and office building located in the Central Business district of Johor Bahru. City Square, along with Komtar, are located on Jalan Wong Ah Fook. Due in part to its proximity to the Johor-Singapore Causeway, City Square attracts many shoppers from Singapore. City Square is the tallest building in Johor Bahru.

The building interior consists of five storey’s of shopping malls, including a thirty-six storey office block, which is divided into the lower, middle and upper zones. City Square has three floors of basement car park. The Singapore Visitor Centre, located at level 2, was launched in 2005. In 2000, the Mega Pavilion Cinema has been upgraded to Cathay Cineplex with new theaters at both level 5 and level 7. The pedestrian bridge which connects the City Square to JB Sentral was opened in December 2008.

The The Government of Singapore Investment Corporation owns 70% of City Squares shares, which they bought in June 2009. The remaining shares are divided between the Johor Bahru City Council and MBJBT. Sveral banks including Maybank, Affin Bank and RHB Bank have opened their branches in City Square. Fast-food outlets such as McDonald’s have also done so. The TOPS supermarket, previously located at Basement 1, was declared bankrupt in 2002 and Kapitan Mart took its place.

Cap Square is a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Also commonly referred to as Capital Square, it is located along Jalan Munshi Abdullah, in midtown Kuala Lumpur and was developed by Bandar Raya Developments Berhad, a prominent Malaysian property developer. Apart from retail spaces, the development encompasses one 36-storey condominium block and one office block under phase 2. Phase 1, which comprised a single 40-storey office block, was completed back in 1994. It is also home to Bandar Raya Developments Berhad’s corporate headquarters. The completed 36-storey residence component of the Cap Square development comprises 180 apartment units.

Development of Cap Square was put on hold since 1997 due to the Asian Financial Crisis. The only fully completed structure then was the Menara Multi-Purpose, which was completed in 1994. Construction of a second office block (OT2) stalled and its partially completed structure remained abandoned for about 10 years. In January 2008, Bandar Raya Developments Berhad announced that it had entered into a conditional sales and purchase agreement with Union Investment Real Estate AG for the en block sale of the 41-storey OT2 for RM439 million. Construction of OT2 has since resumed and is currently expected for completion in 2011.
