First World Hotel is the second largest hotel in the world by rooms. It comprises Tower 1 and Tower 2, each with 28 floors, and has a total of 6,118 rooms. It is one of the five hotels located in Genting Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia, along with Genting Hotel, Theme Park Hotel, Highlands Hotel and Resort Hotel. It was the largest hotel in the world until The Palazzo, an expansion of The Venetian in Las Vegas was opened in January of 2008.

The hotel is managed by First World Hotel and Resorts Sdn. Bhd, one of two major companies operating at Genting Highlands resort (the other is Resorts World Bhd). The resort can be reached by the Genting Skyway, which is the world’s fastest (and Southeast Asia’s longest) cable car, which travels at 6 meters per second.

The First World Hotel is a standard hotel at most of its rooms. Below the hotel is a 500,000 square feet (46,000 m2) plaza called First World Plaza, housing shopping malls, arcades, food outlets, Starworld casino, The Pavilion and the Genting indoor theme park. It has a stage for weekly performances (such as magic and music shows) at the area called Time Square, surrounded by a replica of the Statue of Liberty and an Oscar statue. Other facilities including Watersplash Pool (an indoor water theme park for children), Genting Sky Venture (Asia’s first free fall simulator) and a cineplex.

First World Hotel main entrance forms the lush and grand tropical rainforest and a spacious Spanish courtyard at its lobby.

On December 18, 2006, Guinness World Records listed the First World Hotel as the world’s largest [complex] hotel by the numbers of room and not by its size of built up area.

The Eastern & Oriental Hotel (popularly known as the E. & O.) is a colonial-style hotel in Penang that was established in 1885 by the Armenian Sarkies Brothers. The sea-fronting hotel is known for its luxurious accommodation and restaurants. The address is at 10 Lebuh Farquhar.

The Eastern Hotel was founded by the brothers in 1884. Within one year, the hotel had prospered and gained so much popularity that the brothers established another hotel, the Oriental Hotel in 1885, leading to the merging of both hotels to form the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in 1885. The success of the hotel led the brothers to establish a sister hotel, the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, 2 years later.

After World War II, the hotel went through a period of decline and in 1996, it was closed down. After major restoration works to restore the hotel back to its former grandeur under its new owner, The E & O Group, the hotel was reopened to the public in 2001.

Carcosa Seri Negara is a luxury hotel on two adjacent hills inside the Lake Gardens park in Kuala Lumpur. It is owned by the Malaysian Government. The hotel includes two colonial mansions, one named Carcosa, the other Seri Negara.

The Carcosa mansion was built in 1896-1897 as the official residence of Sir Frank Athelstane Swettenham the first British High Commissioners in Malaya of the then Resident-General of the Federated Malay States. It was designed by Arthur Charles Norman a senior government architect of the Public Works Department in Malaya, at a cost of about $25,000. With the eclectic fusion of Neo-Gothic and Tudor styles, the residence has more than eight bedrooms including master bedroom and guest rooms; and eleven bathrooms. It became a hotel in 1989.

Seri Negara or Beautiful Country in Malay, was originally known as the Governor’s Residence when it opened in 1913 as the official guest house of Governor of the Straits Settlement. Later it was called King’s House.

King’s House was vacated by the British High Commissioner on August 31, 1957, and returned to the Malayan Government. It was then opened as the Istana Tetamu or Guest’s Palacehosting many a visiting dignitary. In 1989, when it was combined with Carcosa into a luxury hotel, the building was renamed Seri Negara.

One of Carcosa Seri Negara’s trademarks is the English afternoon tea, served in the elegant drawing room, or on the charming wrap-around verandah, overlooking the beautiful gardens. It is served daily.
