YTL Corporation Berhad (Company No. 92647-H) is one of the largest companies listed on the Bursa Malaysia (Stock Code: 4677, Bloomberg: YTLMK; Reuters: YTLS.KL), and together with its five listed subsidiaries has a combined Market Capitalisation of about RM30 billion (US 9 billion ). The company was listed in 1985, has also had a secondary listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange since 1996. YTL was the first Asian non-Japanese company to be listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The YTL Group’s core businesses are ownership and management of regulated utilities and other infrastructural assets, serving 10 million customers in three continents.

YTL Corporation’s strategy of providing “World Class Products and services at very competitive prices” along with its history of Innovation, has led directly to it recording a compounded annual growth rate in Pre-tax profits of 55% over the last 15 years, and an enviable track record of creating shareholder value. It has been paying dividends every year since it was listed on KLSE. YTL Corporation’s strategy has also resulted in it and its subsidiaries accumulating numerous International Awards in the process.

Philosophy

YTL Corporation’s strategy of offering “World Class Products and Services at Competitive Prices” extends across the range of its business activities, and is perhaps the single most important factor underpinning its success today in enhancing shareholder value. This policy has not only ensured that the group is able to offer attractive, high quality products and services to its customers at competitive prices, but also contributed directly to its success in achieving a compounded annual growth rate in Pre-tax profits of 55% over the last 15 years.

Indeed, it is because of this strategy that YTL Power is able to profitably sell power at the most competitive prices in the world (at 3.8 US cents per kw/h, a lower average-per-kilowatt than anywhere in the United States)

One more illustration is the 57 km “KL Cat” Express Rail Link, running from KL City centre to KL International Airport, which is virtually identical in design to the high-speed rail system that runs between London Heathrow Airport and Paddington Station in London, and uses the same Siemen’s rail transportation technology. A ticket to ride on the British rail link, a 15-minute trip, is about US$15. In contrast, by cutting capital costs and using a local funding source, the “KL Cat” ERL travels twice as far, about 57 kilometres, in 28 minutes, but for the equivalent of only about US$8. This is the cheapest fare-per-kilometre in the world for rapid rail transit.

Another example of this strategy is the award winning the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, which has the cheapest room rates amongst any other Ritz Carlton hotel in the world (a room night in this luxury five-star hotel runs only about US$75, compared to more than $300 or $400 or more for comparable hotels in Europe or the U.S.).

Awards

As one of Malaysia’s best managed companies, YTL Corporation has won numerous awards and come out tops in numerous surveys over the years, including awards from “The Far Eastern Economic Review”, “Asia Week”, “CIO Asia” and many others. YTL Corporation’s most recent accolades came from “Finance Asia” magazine, when it was highlighted under the categories “Most Committed to Corporate Governance”, “Best Financial Management” and “Best Managed Company”.

The Numeruos Awards For YTL Corporation Bhd.:

YTL Corporation Berhad wins award for “Commendation for Social Reporting”
YTL Corporation Berhad won a Top Award for “Commendation for Social Reporting” at the ACCA Malaysia Environmental and Social Reporting Awards (MESRA) 2007.
YTL’s Wessex Water wins Queen’s Award for Enterprise
Wessex Water is celebrating being the first UK water company to gain The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Sustainable Development category.
YTL’s Spa Village Tanjung Jara scoops Conde Nast Traveller accolades
The Spa Village was voted Best Hotel Spa in Asia Pacific and the Indian Subcontinent as well as ranking number two in the prestigious “best of the best” list of the Worlds Top 26 Spas.

Awards for YTL spas
Winners were voted for by 28 independent judges consisting mainly of spa personalities and writers who set the benchmarks in the region. “The AsiaSpa Awards are now a firm fixture in the industry’s calendar and we are proud of their integrity and success,” says Olivier Burlot, chief executive officer of Adkom Media, publisher of AsiaSpa magazine.

YTL Voted Among Asia’s Best Companies 2002 (Malaysia) in FinanceAsia
The survey by FinanceAsia.com covered the performance of the top companies in 10 countries in Asia by polling institutional investors and equity analysts and received a total of 331 votes. YTL Corp has been voted Best at Investor Relations; and has been listed among the Company Most Committed to Corporate Governance; Strongest Commitment to Enhancing Shareholder Value; Best Financial Management; and Best Managed Company.

YTL in Asia’s Leading Companies List
The results of the Far Eastern Economic Review’s annual company survey, the Review 200: Asia’s Leading Companies, YTL Corporation was announced making a return appearance at number 5 in the list of Malaysia’s top 10 companies. The survey, conducted by ACNielsen International Research (Hong Kong), asked readers to give their views on 208 multinational corporations in Asia, and between 26 and 39 companies in each of 11 countries around the region. In addition to overall leadership, each company was ranked according to quality of products and services, the long-term vision of its management, its innovativeness in responding to customers’ needs, its financial soundness, and its status as a company others try to emulate. Not surprisingly, companies seen as being responsive to customers’ needs come out on top. Nearly 70% of readers believe that high-quality products or services is a key determinant of leadership potential.
